Exporting content

To export a Document, Folder or Publication

Overview

Chief Editors and Managers have the option to export content as a full media archive (.zip) or an Open Document (.odt). The zip archive will contain all items in the container, including Silva XML, Silva Assets, and other Zope content (Fig. 1.).

For extensive non-Silva content, a Zope export (zexp) files may be a better approach, but it requires a Manager to perform it.

Export options

include sub publications
This option determines whether sub-publications will be taken along in the export.
export only newest versions?
You can export only the last (possibly unpublished) versions. This option is checked by default. It you uncheck it, all versions will be exported. This option only affects the export of textual content.
select an export format
For the export format you can choose between a zip format (default) or an Open Document (.odt). format. The Open Document format doesn’t export any assets, only textual content.

Single documents can also be export/imported by going to the document’s export screen via its publish screen.

To do a full-media export

  1. Navigate to the document, folder or publication you wish to export.
  2. Click on the publish tab located at the right of the top navigation bar.
  3. In the publish screen click on the export button. You should now see the form in Fig. 1.
  4. Decide whether you want to include sub publications and whether you want all versions of content by clicking the check boxes.
  5. Click export.

A file will download from the server which you can save on your disk.

From the Silva management area you can export a Document, a Folder or a Publication. If the exported file is imported into another Silva site, the complete hierarchy of Folders and Documents will be recreated.
